The Children’s Ministry That Could Change the Rainbow Nation

It is the best of times and the worst of times for representatives of Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) in South Africa. Political upheaval and civil unrest there have cast a dark shadow upon the diverse population of the “Rainbow Nation.” But, as conditions there grow increasingly more dangerous, the GLW mission to bring “One Million Children” into relationship with Jesus remains stalwart.

Debbie Sourgen a native South African who has successfully managed GLW’s “iVangeli” curriculum project there for five years, is beginning preparations to hand her responsibilities over to a qualified leader so she may join the GLW team at our Ventura, California headquarters. Debbie has been working closely with her successor and is very encouraged by their time together, remarking, “She’s so enthusiastic about learning from me.”

LogoThe Summer Games begin this week focusing all eyes on Beijing. Gospel Light Worldwide has issued an Olympic challenge that carries double blessings and eternal consequences.

Gospel Light Worldwide has been preparing for China since 2003. Gospel Light Worldwide helps children enter and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through culturally relevant, locally published Bible resources and teacher training.

Recently, Gospel Light Worldwide received a $50,000 commitment to help bring God’s Word to the children of China but there was a hook. The contributor will only give GLW the $50,000 when they raise another $50,000 in new gifts.

Child waiting in ChinaImmediate Need for Grief Recovery Resources in China Relief Efforts

One of the saddest things to witness has been the number of children killed in schools collapsing. For a nation that is limited to having one child per couple, the loss of children has been devastating for the parents left behind. One recent cause for concern has been the dramatic rise in suicides that began soon after the earthquake.

The recent earthquake in Sichuan province has been called China’s greatest natural disaster in more than 30 years. With over 50,000 presumed dead, 220,000 injured and 4.8 million in temporary shelter, it will take a long time for the residents of Sichuan province to heal from this tragedy.

One Million Children A Gospel Light Worldwide | Salem Communications Partnership?

When we launched our One Million Children storytelling website in March, we never dreamed that we would be partnering with Salem Communications the very next month.

Susan Hart, a Salem Radio Representative for Salem Communications picked up the One Million Children story hot off the newswire and immediately went to the check things out. She was delighted at what she discovered and immediately contacted our president, Marc Stein, with an idea.

Filmakers NimsChildren Share One Personal Life Changing Story After Another

When Filmmakers Brent and Jenn Nims traveled to China, India and South Africa to document the real life stories of children around the world, they really did not know what to expect.

They visited humble homes, orphanages, townships and churches filming children telling their own stories, some of which broke their hearts.

Scary faces in the trees tormented Aashay from India. Tumi from South Africa had constant turmoil and tragedy surrounding him and his family. Two young brothers from China live in a dark, dingy, 250 square foot apartment with their sister and parents.

Answer PrayerBringing God’s Word to Children is Our Only Priority

The Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) ministry is and has always been focused exclusively on bringing God’s Word to children around the world. We are passionate about it and have recently felt called to pray for God’s direction in redefining our ministry focal point.

Our prayer brought us “One Million Children”, a mission to help One Million Children around the world enter and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Bible ReaderChildren Emerging as Unexpected International Ministry Priority

According to the International Children’s Ministry Institute, Child Evangelism Fellowship and other respected organizations, somewhere between 83 – 86% of Christians worldwide become believers between 4 and 14 years of age. Yet, ministry to children has traditionally been seen as less important than with adults . . . until now.

Gospel Light Worldwide President Marc Stein says, “Even if the percentage is 67% as suggested elsewhere, it is an astonishing statistic and understandably most people are shocked to learn that young people make up such a large percentage of all new believers globally. There is definitely a change in the wind and children are emerging as an international ministry priority.”

Mother and childSponsor a Class of 12 Children for an Entire Year for $1/Month

Once you leave the United States, the concept of children’s Bible study or Sunday School is still something of an innovation. At the same time, churches, pastors and others in the international mission field are citing ministry to children as one of their top priorities.

Over 70 years ago, the legendary Bible teacher and Gospel Light founder Henrietta C. Mears established the foundation of Gospel Light Worldwide to fulfill one vital purpose: to put the best possible Bible teaching tools into the hands of teachers and learners around the world. Today, $1 per child can accomplish that almost anywhere in the world. Continue reading ‘New $1 Scholarship Takes the Gospel Worldwide’
